Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish – Ottawa
“Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.” — Matthew 5:4
A Sacred Journey of Love, Faith, and Remembrance
Losing someone you love is never easy. In times of grief, our Catholic faith offers comfort, hope, and the promise of eternal life. At Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish, we are here to walk alongside you with compassion and care, as you prepare to celebrate the life of your loved one and entrust them into God’s embrace.
Whether you are planning a funeral, navigating the early days of grief, or need guidance on next steps, we are here to help.
Funeral Planning at the Parish
Our team will assist you in planning a funeral that reflects the dignity of Christian life and the hope of the Resurrection. Funerals at Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish may include:
- A Funeral Mass with the body present
- A Memorial Mass with or without the ashes present
- Funeral Liturgy outside of Mass (if preferred)
- Prayers at a funeral home or cemetery
- Music and readings that reflect the person’s faith journey
- We will provide a funeral package with further details
We work closely with you and your chosen funeral home to coordinate all arrangements.
Support for You and Your Family
We know that grief doesn’t end after the funeral. We’re here to support you in the days, weeks, and months that follow—whether through prayer, listening, or connecting you with others who understand.
What to Do When a Loved One Dies
- Contact a Funeral Home – They will assist with many practical steps.
- Call the Parish Office – We’ll guide you through funeral arrangements.
- We’ll meet with you to select readings, music, and discuss the service.
- Our team will support you every step of the way.
Cremation and Catholic Funerals
Cremation is permitted in the Catholic Church unless it is done as a statement against a belief in the resurrection. Whenever possible, we encourage families to celebrate the funeral liturgy before cremation with the body present. Ashes should be treated with the same reverence as a body and interred in a sacred place, not kept at home or scattered.
